My name is Daniel. I was an English teacher in Seoul, South Korea, and am now a writer who has
published three books including South Korea: Our Story by Daniel Nardini.
As far as I am concerned, the United States has played China's
game long enough. What have we gotten for it? A nuclear armed North Korea, China taking
over the South China Sea, China becoming a threat to U.S. military bases in Japan and Hawaii,
and a major trade imbalance between the United States and China because China blocks most
American exports. With a friend like China, the United States does not need any enemies. But
now the United States is taking an important step in dealing against China. This includes the
Taiwan Travel Act. It may not sound like much, but it is an important step in trying top at long
last create greater recognition of Taiwan. The Taiwan Travel Act will now allow for the first
time high ranking Taiwanese officials to visit the United States and meet with their high
ranking American counterparts. This is good because it gives more recognition to Taiwan
which in my view Taiwan should have. The Chinese government can scream all they want,
but since they have done nothing for the United States, why should the United States play
its game? On a related subject, South Korea should NOT play China's game either. We
must remember that China has kept the Korean peninsula divided all this time, and we
must remember that With China's help North Korea has become a nuclear power that
threatens the stability of the world.
