                          There has been a great deal of disinformation about the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) missile defense system. First, it has been alleged that the electromagnetic waves will harm people and cause cancer. This is not true. The electromagnetic waves are deployed 700 feet above and well away from people or any residential area, and are therefore not harmful to people. Also, the Republic of Korea Army has employed electromagnetic waves as part of their missile defense systems for months, and there have been no compaints or protests about this. Second, the THAAD missile system is more of a long range system and is being deployed to protect places like Busan and the very southern part of the Republic of Korea from North Korean missiles. The Seoul area is very well protected by Patriot missiles for short range missiles that could come from North Korea. Finally, we must keep in mind that the North Koreans will not target areas where the THAAD missile system is deployed, but more attack areas of South Korea that are vulnerable to attack. The sad thing is that there will be those leftist protestors and leftist media people who will try to spread disinformation about the whole THAAD missile defense system and try every tactic possible to make sure the new missile system is not deployed and thus making South Korea vulnerable to attack. This is one of the reasons why the U.S. military is trying to be as open about how the THAAD missile system works and have invited the South Korean press to Guam to see how the system works.
