My name is Daniel. I was an English teacher in Seoul, South Korea, and am now a writer who has

published three books including South Korea: Our Story by Daniel Nardini.

                        It has become official; China has been designated among the worst nations for

human trafficking in the world by the U.S. State Department. This comes as no shock to me; from

Taiwanese friends they have described how Chinese smugglers try to take Chinese into Taiwan and

also people from other countries through China on their way to western countries including the United

States. The U.S. government has rated China so low on its list of nations that have been less than

helpful in trying to stop human trafficking that it has joined the list of nations like Russia, the two

Congos, Venezuela, Iran, and North Korea as the lowest of the low. In contrast, South Korea has been

rated among the best nations in the world by the U.S. State Department in trying to stop human

trafficking. Human trafficking includes the illegal sex trade, illegal child trade, and forced and bonded

laborers (sadly, because of its close proximity with China, traffickers try to take people from China

through Taiwan. The Taiwan authorities do their best to prevent this). This list of course includes

thousands of North Korean men used for forced labor for the North Korean government, and North

Korean women who are also used as forced labor and sex slaves. There are South Korean missionaries

who try to help those who are trafficked in China, but the Chinese Public Security Bureau all too

often nails these missionaries and either kicks them out of the country or throws them in jail. No words

I can say can describe this horror, and sadly it remains a fact of life that haunts our world and our lives

as a whole
