My name is Daniel. I was an English teacher in Seoul, South Korea, and am now a writer who has
published three books including South Korea: Our Story by Daniel Nardini.
U.S. President Donald Trump will soon go to South Korea. What he will do and
say remains to be seen. He will be the first American president to travel to South Korea since former
U.S. President Bill Clinton. In the great game of world powers, for those in the U.S. government South
Korea is simply one more pawn on the board that needs to be protected (while China tries to acquire
that pawn). In the overall context, the U.S. government has no other interest in South Korea. Most
Americans have little to no knowledge about South Korea at all. It is simply "there." For me, South
Korea is more than just there and not a pawn. It is a country I have lived in, and have traveled around
for the past ten years. My first book, South Korea: Our Story, gives a basic information about South
Korea and its recent history. My third book, My Taiwan, Seoul and Guadalajara (Mexico) Memoir
provides a great deal of information about South Korea's capital Seoul. My third book also provides
a story background for my wife's family in Seoul---how they got there, and how their lives are in
Seoul today. My fourth book, which has yet to be published, will deal with the areas I have traveled
through outside of Seoul. The whole of the books I have written is to provide information on South
Korea in the 21st Century. There are a LOT of books on the Korean War, but relatively few in most
public libraries here about Korea in the late 20th and early 21st centuries. South Korea has moved
well beyond the Korean War, and there is more to understand about what it is now. America has
moved well beyond the Korean War and beyond even the Vietnam War. I have published what books
I have so that people can see more of what South Korea is beyond being a pawn or just "there."
