My name is Daniel. I was an English teacher in Seoul, South Korea, and am now a writer who has

published three books including South Korea: Our Story by Daniel Nardini.

                             My heartfelt condolences to all of the families who lost loved ones in the

Jecheon fire. It is a terrible tragedy that in too many ways should not have happened. The real

problem is the fact that all safety procedures were not adhered to. The emergency exits were

blocked, and poor and even fire hazard material was built into the structure. This lack of safety 

is nothing new in South Korea. I saw this in a number of places in Seoul. While South Korea has

been making considerable improvements in safety standards, there is much still to do.  Strangely 

enough, no one is blaming President Moon Jae-in for this fire. Personally, no one should. Lax

fire safety standards has been a problem in South Korea for years---long before Moon ever

came to power. But now, I have to ask the important question why the South Korean political

left came to blame former President Park Geun-hye for what happened in the tragedy of the

Sewol ferry sinking?! Like Jecheon, this was a tragedy due to poor safety standards that have

been there long before Park ever came to power. But the political left used this as an excuse

to try and impeach her and have her imprisoned. along with the Choi Soon-sil scandal. The

political left did what they did to seize power and make sure their people were put into place.

This, in my view, is a far, far bigger scandal and crime than anything Choi Soon-sil could

have ever done. There is no question that the South Korean political left is playing a game

of saying nothing bad about anyone whom they support, and trying to portray those

opposed to them as "vile traitors." It is equally sad that they used the Korean news media

as well as the legislature to throw out a president they did not like. So, who are the vile

traitors?
